HOPES AND FEARS

TET 46313 (Irreconcilable Differences x Flying Purple People Eater).
9" (range of 8-10"), 36" on average but wide variations in average height from year to year (40", 36", 34", 28"- perhaps it is sensitive to rain amounts in May), 3-way branching (range of 2-5, but one year the median was 5-way), 16 buds (range of 9-29), M, Dor, fr, instant Re in the GH but none noted outside in MN. Big, strong plant, and often 10" blooms. Cranberry grape; large chartreuse throat you can see from a distance; small ivory edge.
It has several different looks and colors, depending on the weather, including a beautiful patterned look one day this summer. (Parent Irreconcilable Differences will often show a pattern, and it is obviously passing that on.) To be honest, I am not an expert on open forms/UF's, and I have a hard time telling them apart in other people's gardens as well as in my seedling beds. Because of that, I have been on the fence for a while about whether or not to introduce it, but its strong plant habit and seeing the pattern buried inside of it made me decide to go ahead. I have no records of planting seeds from it. The pollen looks good, but I know many of the FPPE kids are not pod fertile. Sorry not to know more. Why the name? The Hopes part is what could be inside this strong plant, and the Fears part is that in high winds the narrow petals will break or bend.
