HOPE FOR THE HEART

TET 60610 [(Repeat the Sounding Joy x Chariot of Clouds) x sdlg] x (sdlg x All Things to All Men 6", 30", 18 buds (range of 6-31), 4-way branching (2-7 way), ML to early Late or Late, Sev, Re (only occasionally outside in MN), CMO. Dark pink with pale pink watermark; pink plus ivory white ruffled edge; yellow to green throat. A good opener but will sometimes tangle. Stunning color (every visitor who sees it wants it) and it makes kids also with stunning color - see website for LOTS of them! Its blooms are the star of the August and September garden and it is one of the last couple of plants blooming in September (along with My Utmost for His Highest). It has strong scapes, is very hardy, and it has some of the BEST foliage (top 5%) in the summer and into the fall garden when many plants are stressed, especially in bad years. So why isn't it priced higher? Because it has a couple of flaws as a garden plant in Minnesota. As you can see by the numbering, I first saw it bloom in 2010. It was terrific in its original test location and made a beautiful clump, but in two other places it hasn't grown as quickly or uniformly in terms of the scape. The main flaw, however, appeared here (but it has not happened at its Iowa test location) in spring of 2023 and 2024 where in its outside lineout location all the plants had spring sickness (which is where the leaves emerge and then go flat to the ground and soon grow out of it). People who have never experienced this might be alarmed and think the plant is dying, but Hope for the Heart quickly grows out of it, and as I mentioned, its foliage is in the best 5% of the garden. I have not seen any of its kids do this, but I have a lot of seedlings and am busy with shipping in May. This is lined out outside because it needs colder weather than in the GH to grow nice fans, so shipping will be sometime in June
